College of Science

College of Science in Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) was founded on March, 2nd, 2000. It’s made up of the Department of Applied Chemistry and the Department of Applied Physics of the original university. The faculty covers three first-level disciplines including mathematics, physics and chemistry, and a second-level discipline which is applied chemistry. Among the disciplines, chemistry and applied chemistry have been authorized to confer doctorates. And all of the disciplines have the right to grant master’s degree.

The faculty is equipped with ten departments (divisions or institutes), including the Department of Organic University, the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, the Department of Physical Chemistry, the Department of Analytical Chemistry, the Department of Applied Chemistry, Institute of Modern Chemistry, Chemistry Experimental Center, Physics Division, Mathematics division and faculty’s offices. Now availably there are 197 faculty and staff members, 149 teachers who have doctor’s degree, 51 full professors and researchers and 71 associate professors, among which there are 60 doctoral supervisors.

The faculty gathers a lot of top teachers and scholars who devote themselves to imparting knowledge and educating people, developing the country through science and seeking truth, including 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Science, 1 special term professor of ministry of education’s Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 4 teachers who got Outstanding Young Investigator Award, 2 teachers teaching at the national level and 9 Beijing Famous Teachers. What’s more, there are 3 teachers who were awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 13 scholars who were elected in the New Century Talent Supporting Project by education ministry, 11 teachers who enrolled in Beijing New Star Plan of Science and Technology. There are also excellent teams in our faculty, including a State-Level Teaching Team of the first batch, 3 Beijing Outstanding Teaching Team and 1 innovation team of the Program for Chang Jiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team in University of Ministry of Education of China.

Our faculty is built with State key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering Laboratory, Basic Research Laboratory of Assessment and Accident Identification of New Hazardous Chemicals, Beijing Key Laboratory of Environmental Hazardous Chemicals Analysis and Engineering Technology Center of Multi-level Structure of Catalytic Materials. It also has laboratory of the sixth framework programme for research and bases for Higher school subject innovation engineering plan.

Our faculty is a remarkable and well-organized faculty. It has remarkable achievements in teaching and scientific researches. It has won one National Technology Progress Prize and the Invention Prize for each. And it has won one 1st grade prize and three 2nd prizes of National Outstanding Achievements in Education. In scientific research field, our faculty covers algebraic geometry, applied calculus equation, optimization theory, the mathematical problems in engineering, electronic components and materials, electric/light technology research, modern analysis and testing technology, inorganic functional material, catalysis science and technology, special coating, applied electrochemistry, the synthesis and preparation of pharmaceutical intermediate chemistry, applied laser chemistry, interface chemistry and applied technology, water treatment technology and chemical agent, inorganic material chemistry, fine organic synthesis, intercalation chemistry and chemicobiology. In nearly three years, it has undertaken nine projects of Nation 973 Project, six projects of National 863 Project, more than 80 key projects of National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Surface Project, more than 50 provincial projects. Its scientific research fund is nearly 130 million RMB. It has published more than 800 academic papers, among which SCI has included more than 600 papers; EI has recorded more than 90 papers. A number of the studies of our faculty have gained state-level, provincial-level and city-level prizes.

With the development of the international co-operation and communication, our faculty has built good relationships with colleges, universities and scientific research institutions in countries like Japan, America, France, Australia, Egypt and Russia, improving the levels of scientific researches and learning.

All the teachers and staff of our College of Science are working with sheer enthusiasm, entrepreneurial spirit and diligence. They are making contributions to our university in its way leading to a distinctive, influential internationally and high-level research university.
